Composition Becomes A Challenge Again! - Mission 9942e

At the beginning of our trip to Merritt, our leader Wong Tai Wan brought us to one of his favorite locations, the Westminster Abbey in Mission. This is the place where they shoot several times a year for the famous foggy scene.

Foggy scene is a very difficult subject for shooting. It is very hard to make a good composition. You need appropriate amount of light and appropriate amount of fog and a very creative mind and eyes to spot the good composition.

I am stubborn photographer who believes composition is the most important element in a picture. Even you get great tones, right dynamic range and perfect exposure. If you do not have a good composition, it is still a failed shot.

At the beginning of our photographic learning, you follow the basics such as rule of thirds, leading lines, foreground/background, golden mean, contrast in tones/pattern etc and you feel easy to make an interesting composition. After all these years, I no longer follow the rules. I just do it by instinct or by heart but then I feel more and more difficult to do a good composition recently.

I move up and down. I turn right and left on the hill above the foggy scene. I still could not find a satisfactory composition.

I know I have come to a stage that composition becomes a challenge again. I have not succeeded and gone over this stage of photography. I will try my best!

This is the foggy scene at Wesminster Abbey hillside.

Happy weekend!

如霧起時,

敲叮叮的耳環在濃密的髮叢找航路;

用最細最細的噓息,吹開睫毛引燈塔的光
