Rendering Tallow

Lousy photos taken with a failing tiny point and shoot and greasy hands. :)

 

This is a first for me. It is the messiest job I've ever done. Swinging the meat cleaver was very therapeutic as I was a bit stressed yesterday. I did a number on my cutting board. :)

I got the suet for free from a local meat packing plant. I don't know anything about the cow, but the fat doesn't solidify as quickly as the grass fed beef I've cooked before. I figure it is better than factory raised beef tallow for the occasional fried food, and much better than vegetable oil. :)
