RIP CRI&P LaSalle Street Terminal

Designed by the architectural firm Frost & Granger, opened July 1, 1903 and stood until 1981. This station was a set for Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 North by Northwest, starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint, and in the 1973 movie The Sting starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford.
It fronted 215 ft. on Van Buren street, with a depth of 156ft. 10in. on La Salle and Sherman (parallel) streets, and was 10 stories high. The first two stories are of granite, and the remaining eight of red paving brick. All trimmings, except the window sills, which are terra cotta, are granite. The building had a steel grillage foundation, resting on 50-ft. piling driven to hard ground, the piles were spaced 3 ft. between centers.
The station had 11 tracks entering the train shed. The first floor was at the level of the street and the second at the track level.
