1910 StLIM&S Station (Jefferson Barracks MO)

Constructed by the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Rwy around 1910, this station was demolished in the late 1980's.. Thousands of GIs boarded troop trains at this red brick station.

Jefferson Barracks was established in 1826 as the country's first "Infantry School of Practice." It was named in honor of former President Thomas Jefferson. It served as a major United States military installation until 1946.

The St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway was built to supply St. Louis with the abundant mineral resources. mainly iron ore and lead, from the Ozark region of Missouri. On August 5, 1902, the railroad was granted a license to erect and maintain a passenger station and to occupy a strip of land 500 feet long and 70 feet wide at the foot of Smith Street.

The StLIM&S became part of the Missouri Pacific in 1917. Today the tracks are being operated as part of the Union Pacific's Desoto subdivision.
