1856 Barkley Station (Hannibal & St. Joseph RR)

Barkley station was located on the Hannibal & St. Joseph RR. in Miller Township, Marion County. five miles south of Palmyra, and ten miles northwest from Hannibal. Named for the first settler, Levi Barkley, it was on the southwest corner of his farm. This was an important shipping point for livestock and fruit.

The station has been moved from its original site and preserved and the railroad line through this area has been abandoned and removed, but you can still see evidence of the railroad right-of-way on Google maps

The Levi Barkley house [39°44′04″N 91°29′51″W], built about 1860, a two-story, vernacular Greek Revival style brick dwelling with a two-story rear ell, still survives and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the state of Missouri.
