I Shoot Film part 5: Ricoh XR-7 & Rikenon 50mm F/2
in 1982 Ricoh introduced what could be called, "The Plastic Fantastic." This is really a transition camera. Based on the Pentax K bayonet mount it is a cheap, lightweight, mostly plastic camera that nonetheless provides a pretty good feature set in a lightweight ergonomic camera. It has:
- a hot shoe,
- full manual controls
- aperture priority mode which locks the aperture dial until released.
- a timer mode with flashing red lights and all
- depth of field preview
- Auto Exposure Lock button
- an external flash trigger
- an exposure compensation settings dial
-a single frame multiple exposure button.
- and one button that doesn't do anything as far as I can tell. But I'll keep pushing it!
So, lots of features. Plus, I would say, more cheap, but good lenses than any other mount.
Make no mistake there is a lot of plastic here. Both in the camera, and the lens. But it would be hard to part with!
