Material Handling Solutions

Here is a material handling solution for the aerospace industry.

 

A US Air Force Base required a material handling solution for sandblasting and repainting cargo carriers.

 

Handling Specialty designed and manufactured a Robotic Aircraft

Paint Removal System for them.

 

A moveable base supports the 45 foot mast, and is equipped with a robotic-type arm capable of moving 90° in a left

to right motion (180° in total). The boom is retractable to a length of 21 feet at a maximum retraction speed of 3 in/sec. Guides on top of the arm secure the spray nozzle, which is used to either sandblast or spray-paint an aircraft.

 

The platform is equipped with 4 outriggers complete with auto leveling capability via screw jacks. Wheels are steered by single axis servo motors allowing the platform to move in 3 directions: side to side, back and forth, and rotating up to 360°.

 

A separate unit or “rolling cart” houses the interface devices such as the touch screen and joystick which controls

movement.
