Silves cathedral

This cathedral is located in the city of Silves, in Portugal's Algarve region. A mosque, built during the Moorish rule of the Iberian Peninsula, was originally located here. It was mostly restructured and converted into a Catholic cathedral after 1242, when Christian knights reconquered the region. Built and renovated over the centuries, the cathedral has some Baroque characteristics, but is mostly Gothic in nature. It is considered to be the main Gothic monument in the Algarve and was classified as a national monument on June 29, 1922. (Wikipedia)
