Haas Automation, Inc.
Star (Gear) of the Show
This star gear shaft for the Haas side-mount tool changer (SMTC) is fresh from machining on a Haas VF-4 in the Haas Automation machine shop. The large holes in the perimeter of the shaft will soon receive six heavy-duty rollers that will engage a cam gear in the SMTC gearbox.
The shaft began as bar stock, and was machined in two ops on a Haas SL-30APL turning center with automatic parts loader. The splines were cut by a Haas supplier using a single-point broach. Then the milling processes were performed on a Haas VF-4 vertical machining center using a HRT310 rotary table. After the cam rollers are installed, the shaft will become a vital component in the SMTC gearbox. All Haas SMTCs are designed and built at the Haas factory in California.
