The seaweed Chondrus crispus, commonly known in English as: carragheen or Irish moss. It is edible. The blue irridecence on the tips is usual. Can be confused with a similar alga: Mastocarpus stellatus, also edible and known by the same comon names.

Carragheen is an Irish word meaning 'rock moss'. The Welsh name is gwymon melys = sweet seaweed.
