B707-AirAfrique-5X-JEF-177

Another"not easy to identify" company...The title is "Air Afrique" but I am not sure that this plane was operating for the multinational Airline of some Western African Countries...

5X-JEF (c/n 19821 l/n 718 series -379C) was built in 1968 and delivered in June to BOAC as G-AWHU. The company meged into British Airways in April 1974 and the plane followed. In June 1983 British Airways retired the plane and sold it to TRATCO that re-sold it to Air Supply Corp as 9Q-CKI in November 1983. The plane later operated for Hang Kong Vietnam (first as VN-B3415, then as VN-83415) until October 1989. Ownership of the aircraft chamged quite often, being it traded between different "financial" operators. In October 1989 teh plane was back in Englad as G-AWHU again operating for TRadewinds Airways to be stored at manston fron July 1990. The plane then started the "usual" end of the life career with African carriers: From August 1990 to January 1991 it operated as 5X-JEF for Dairo AS. From Januaruy 1991 to August 1991 it opearted as ST-GLD for Golden Star AC. In Septeber 1991 the plane went to Race/Phoenix Aviation first as 9G-OLF, later as 9G-ONE and 9G-WON. In September 1993 it was leased again to Daiso AS. In March 1997 the plane was seen (as per the slide herewith above) with "Air Afrique" title. In April 2001 the plane moved to Great Lakes Airways as 5X-GLA and it was spotted several times in Europe and in Africa with difefrent registration and color schemes until its retirement and storage at SHJ from September 2003. The airframe changed ownership a couple of times again with little use before to be eventullay stored in Abu Dhabi in August 2012.

Slide taken in RTM in March 1997. The plane wears DAIRO AS color scheme and Air Afrique title.
