Novelty Paper Fastener

This small and light device sets a single staple. It has an about 4½-in. base containing a clamp and a separate, about 4½-in. long plunger with a channel into which you put the staple, legs outward. You clamp papers to be stapled on the base, insert the plunger containing a staple, and then hit the plunger to push the staple through the papers. Then, to clinch the staple, you must turn the paper over, insert the projecting points of the staple into the plunger, and hit it again.First introduced in the 1890s and produced through at least the early 1900s. Made by the Philadelphia Novelty Manufacturing Co., Philadelphia.
