Eclipse from Space - GOES Full Disk

On August 21, 2017, the first total solar eclipse to move across the United States in 99 years occurred. GOES-16 captured the eclipse with the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) which had a clear view of the moon’s shadow as it traveled diagonally across the path of totality of the Continental United States from the Pacific Northwest through South Carolina.

In this full disk geocolor image from GOES-16 on August 21, 2017, the center of the moon's shadow is now east of the Mississippi River.
