Hang Time

The actual time span between the Snowy Egret's beak striking the water and all but one of the airborne gulf menhaden returning to the drink is not quite one full second but you would likely never guess that if all you had to go by is the visual evidence of their impressive leaps and apparent mid-air suspension captured in the 10th-of-a-second intervals of a digital camera. Seen in real time, it is more like a fish party popper, over almost as soon as it starts, except often followed shortly by another and then another yet again. But real time or freeze frame, it is a sight to behold on Armand Bayou.

Note: This is the second frame in burst mode after the previous post, so about a fifth of a second later.
