mosquitos 2
the greatest fictional band ever, THE MOSQUITOS! Gilligan's Island, episode 48, December 9, 1965. "he's a loser (he's got rocks inside his head), he's a loser....." I of course wasn't born when this originally aired, but like most kids of the 70's I saw every one of them on afternoon TV after school, this was my favorite episode. There was a commonality of experiences kids of my generation shared, one of them was this show, because there were only 3 TV networks (heck, our antenna only got 2 of them!) so we all watched the same stuff. Your cultural touchstones were such that anyone who didn't get the joke was the exception, not the rule. Not the same now, there is so much available on TV, satellite, DVD, internet. Sometimes I wonder how anyone relates to anyone else. But I also see it allows people far apart physically to connect online based on interests they share...impossible when I was growing up. I remember staying up late at night and being able to tune in AM radio stations from far away places like Chicago, New York, Atlanta...that was exotic to a kid in nowheresville.
