Tornano qui gli Zu dopo il loro concerto del 2009, che tutti ricordiamo. Si tratta di uno dei gruppi più significativi emersi dall’underground italiano negli ultimi vent’anni, non solo perché è approdato alla corte di Mike Patton (l’etichetta Ipecac), ma per come ci è approdato, senza compromessi e suonando incessantemente dal vivo in tutto il mondo, cosa, quest’ultima, che anche oggi riesce a pochissime nostre band.
In seguito alla separazione dal batterista Jacopo Battaglia, l’esperienza degli Zu si è interrotta per tre anni, fino a quando, nel 2014, Luca T. Mai (sax) e Massimo Pupillo (basso) si sono riattivati unendosi a Gabe Serbian dei Locust (e dei Retox) e hanno pubblicato l’ep “Goodnight, Civilization”, “The Left Hand Path”, con Eugene Robinson degli Oxbow, e il nuovo full length “Cortar Todo”, ospiti Joey Karam (ancora dai Locust) alle tastiere e Stefano Pilia alla chitarra.
Di certo il nostro pubblico non può non amare chi ha intitolato un suo pezzo “Tom Araya is our Elvis” e sembra proprio che non potrà restare indifferente al materiale di “Cortar Todo”, per il quale uno come Adam Wright della Crucial Blast, etichetta americana che unisce metal estremo a istanze “avant”, si è prodotto in definizioni come “the heaviest goddamn thing they've ever belted us with” “monstrously downtuned sludgefest” e “brute-force jazzcore”, sottolineando come nel disco convivano opposti come urgenza hardcore-punk e complessità, contorsioni jazz e pesantezze doom.
Noi li (ri)vedremo all’opera con il nuovo batterista Tomas Järmyr (Barchan): l’appuntamento è imperdibile, non si sa nemmeno perché lo scriviamo.

Zu are finally back to Tetris, after their memorable gig in 2009. The are the most significant underground band the Italian scene has seen since the nineties, not only because of their connection with Mike Patton (Ipecac record label), but because they never ceased playing live all over the world, while staying true to themselves, something, that very few Italian bands manage to accomplish.
After the original drummer Jacopo Battaglia left the band, Zu took a 3 year break, until Luca T. Mai (sax) and Massimo Pupillo (bass guitar) joined forces with Gabe Serbian (Locust, Retox) giving birth to their last EP “Goodnight, Civilization” in 2014 and full-length “The Left Hand Path” with Eugene Robinson (Oxbow) the same year. Their new full-length “Cortar Todo”, featuring Joey Karam (Locust) on keyboards and Stefano Pilia on guitar was released on March 24, 2015.
Obviously, our crowd cannot stay indifferent to a band who called a song “Tom Araya is our Elvis” and will certainly fall in love with “Cortar Todo”, which Adam Wright from Crucial Blast, an independent american record label focusing on indie/noise/metal/avant underground defined as “the heaviest goddamn thing they've ever belted us with”, “monstrously downtuned sludgefest” and “brute-force jazzcore”, highlighting how the urge of hardcore-punk, sophistication and twist of jazz and heaviness of doom coexist in this record.
On November 29 we will see them with their new drummer Tomas Järmyr (Barchan), it goes without saying, missing this gig would be an epic fail.
