Archie the boxer puppy with some of his family at Binns Tower, near Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland

Archie, who lives in Bo'ness, was 4 months old when I took this shot.

The House of the Binns: Set in beautifully landscaped parkland overlooking the River Forth, this fascinating laird’s house near Linlithgow has been the home of the Dalyells for over 400 years. The Dalyells of the Binns have a long tradition of serving in the Royal Company of Archers, the Sovereign’s Bodyguard in Scotland. The present house was built in 1612 by Thomas Dalyell, an Edinburgh merchant who made his fortune at the court of King James VI and I in London. The estate is situated on two hills (bens from Gaelic) from which its name is derived. The house is set in 0.81 km2 of parkland, and approached by two drives: the current west drive, and main east drive that has been disused since 1913. The category "B" listed folly Binns Tower is situated at the highest point of the park, Binns Hill. It was designed by Alexander Allan in 1826, allegedly as the result of a wager placed with the then owner, Sir James Dalyell. On the west side of Binns Hill is a woodland garden with walks through it to the tower. Beneath the escarpment to the south-west of the Tower is General Tam's cave, supposedly used by him for meditation. Thomas’s son, General Tam Dalyell, formed the legendary regiment of Royal Scots Greys. There are many mementos of him in the house, as well as colourful legends about his dealings with the Devil to discover. www.nts.org.uk/visit/places/house-of-binns
