Oldham Daimler CVD6/Crossley 329.
In addition to the 14 Crossley DD42s and 14 SD42s which Oldham took in place of the usual Leylands, were 25 Daimler CVD6s in 1948. 312-321 were Roe bodied whereas 322-336 had Crossley bodies as more familiarly seen on DD42 chassis. These preselect buses were generally disliked by drivers more accustomed to the slow change crash gearboxes of the 64 Leyland PD1 variants in the fleet. Gear changes were brutal for both drivers and passengers as they jumped when the preselect pedal was misused as a clutch.
Both types of Daimlers were familiar on the number 9 route it having been their regular haunt when new. They continued to provide peak hour workings on the 9/M until withdrawal. In 1964 6 Birmingham CVD6s were acquired for mechanical spares and donated their engines and chromed radiators to some of Oldham's buses.
