Oldham 452 when new.

Was one of 24 Roe bodied Leyland PD2/30s (429-452) bought in 1958. 419-428 had MCW Orion bodies which married up to the Leyland BMMO bonnet cowl produced buses of great ugliness, which to us as kids looked like upturned buckets - wide at the bottom and tapering off to a narrow top - hence the name bucket buses we accorded them. 453 -462 were similar Northern Counties buses. 462 was the highest numbered bus in the fleet for a while until the arrival of the ex Sheffield, Bolton and Halifax all Leyland PD2s in the mid-60s. The PD2/30s were the last half cab buses bought new by the department, and 419-452 the last to be lined out. The Roe buses had the full prewar style of extensive lining as seen here. The MCWs were more restrained, and the NCMEs were unlined and were delivered in a much more chocolate shade of the maroon as well as having their rear platform saloon bulkheads painted all maroon (with no white top half) when new.
