First Fall 1967 Bob & Walter playing in the leaves in the front yard
My family moved to this little wood framed cape cod in the fall of 1967. It started it's life as a tool shed in Washington, DC for federal buildings being constructed in the 1930/40's. When they were completed, it was moved to the country to be a summer home for the original owners, the Butterworths. Over time it grew and became a permanent home.
When we moved in, the house and property seemed magical to me. It was a place where: the stairs to the two attic bedrooms were reached through the bathroom; a metal plate in the basement floor, when lifted, revealed a cold water stream that sheltered a frog in the winter; the night air was filled with the song of a thousand "spring peepers"; tiny tree frogs that covered the outside of the house after an evening rain..........
