Angles

In set 31036, Toy & Grocery shop, a door is placed at an angle (see step 23 in the instructions for the primary model). How did they make the angle? It's not a 3-4-5 triangle.

In Step A we see that a 2x4 can be placed on a grid of studs in two ways. This is because the two diagonals between the corner studs are of equal length. Spacers (1x1 plates/round plates) are usually necessary to mount a plate in the second fashion.

In Step B we can see that a 2x4 can again be placed on a grid of studs in two ways - this time because the diagonals between the actual corners are of equal length. This can be achieved using plate or brick hinges. I believe this technique was used in set 10240 Red Five X-Wing Starfighter for the tapered front.

Step C is what was done in the Toy & Grocery shop. It combines A and B - it uses the diagonal between a corner and a corner stud.

n.b. This approach can be used for multiple plate sizes, not just 2x4s, of course.
