Near The Antarctic Circle

Antarctic peaks rise dramatically from the sea as we journey near the Antarctic Circle.

We are traveling in the middle of the austral summer here with daylight almost a constant companion in these extreme southern latitudes.

For most of the year, these quieter waters where we are slowly making passage along the Antarctic Peninsula, are choked with icebergs, pack ice and drift ice. However, because it is the heart of summer here, our ship and capable crew are able to navigate through channels, passages, bays, fjords and straits that would be impassable in other times of the year.

Wild beauty is everywhere here at the ends of the earth, and the map in the ship's chart room serves as a constant reminder that we are a long way from just about everywhere.
