Dreibelbis Station Covered Bridge

The Dreibelbis Station Covered Bridge crosses Maiden Creek in Lenhartsville, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The bridge was built in 1869 by Samuel H. Dreibelbis, a local carpenter and state Senator. The bridge used a Burr arch truss design and was built as 172 feet long.

In 2020, the bridge reconstruction was finished by Lancaster County Timber Frames, Inc. The reconstruction aimed to stay as true to the original design as possible but with a more sturdy reinforced steel underside. Lancaster County Timber Frames completely disassembled the bridge, taking all the pieces back to their York, PA shop, where they rehabilitated most of the existing timers and replaced the ones that could not be saved. New stone abutments were built at the bridge site, and the new steel roadway substructure was laid in place before all the wooden components were re-assembled. A ribbon cutting was held on August 21st, 2020, to dedicate the new bridge. The new bridge lists at 175 feet in length, making it one of the longest single-span covered bridges in the United States.
