Years ago, I started paying attention to extant railroad structures, rolling stock, etc. and had begun mapping them on a private Google map. More recently, I completed a draft spreadsheet that had exact [address] locations and other details about them and whether or not I've shot it before. So, today on my way back home from a weekend in Ottumwa, I meandered about the country paying attention to check boxes I hadn't had. I was glad to be able to shoot this coal empty across my entire route, first in Ottumwa and finally here at Glenwood with the first bit of sun I saw today.
