'Bathing In a Furnished Room' by Alice Neel

Alice Neel (1900-1984) was an American visual artist, who was known for her portraits depicting friends, family, lovers, poets, artists, and strangers. This painting, done in watercolor and pastel on paper in 1927, speaks to Neel's fascination with the home as a stage for some of life's most private dramas, both physical and emotional.

Seen and photographed on display at The de Young Museum in San Francisco in an exhibit of Neel's works entitled 'Alice Neel: People Come First'.
