40090 & 40029 Kirkconnel 25-09-83

Uploaded purely because it shows an art form not practised any more.

It appears the whole train has bailed out for the photo-stop of "Skirl O' The Pipes III". With not a yellow jacket in sight, the whole thing was carried out with fantastic restraint. We all knew we had about 20 minutes to get the shots we wanted, so (with the occasional yell of displeasure at any "posers"), we all got the shots we wanted and reboarded the train when asked with the minimum of fuss. You'll no doubt notice that the train has pulled up quite a way past the platform - that was simply a challenge to us, not a claim for damages!

Perhaps a simpler time for simpler folks.

40029 gave a further 7 months service before withdrawal came on the 25th April 1984. Cutting up was completed at Doncaster Works during November 1984. RIP.

40090 only survived less than two months after this shot. Withdrawn on the 13th November 1983, she was also sent to Doncaster Works and was reduced to razor blades by November 1984. RIP.
