Cattle Egrets
These were the first of a flock to land, during our Monday hike.
Cattle egrets, as many of you know, are native to Africa. They have naturalized here and are one of the very rare introduced species that have actually blended well. Usually they are seen beside grazing cattle, and sometimes hitching a ride upon them. They evidently found a niche that had not been filled before, and have not displaced any native species.
