New scanning software, same old scanner
This is the result of scanning an image with Vuescan software and an old flatbed scanner scanning a color negative with a lightbox (my husband's idea!) on top of it. The negative has to be illuminated from both sides to scan properly -- I tried without the lightbox first and the results were not good.
There's some banding that's presumably a side-effect of scanning the light from the lightbox, but overall this experiment has potential. At least until I get an actual film scanner.
Here's the scan from the print of this negative.
