INTO THE LIGHT (Coming in from the Cold) - Explore
In The Light
Always something to explore on the beach, especially at spring low, super moon.
The big sea stacks, they seem to stay the same, it's just the rocky spaces around that have been exposed. Life revealed, we are thrilled - it flits, sucks, plods, oozes, squirts and kills - fish, crabs, snails, sponges, spiky spiny things, slimy weeds and stars - all in the space of a tiny rock pool. Around the ledges, cracking sounds from barnacles limpets and muscles, who simply won't let go.
Reflections. retractions and colors, moving, with us towering above their world, fascinated, casting shadows and panicking the residents below.
All is magical, except for the voices of reason in high-viz jackets - there are nesting puffins on the dark sheer sided stack - it seems to say, don't climb, stay back - no-one goes too close, and there are beach marshals to help protect, help us all respect.
The pools are teeming with creatures and curios people like us, but there is more to see, more to feel, more to experience. We walk on, away, across the beach, excited, water on our feet. It feels so special to be out so far where feet and sand so seldom meet.
We look, we scan, where have all the dollar shells gone, they must be here today, surely, but it's the wrong tide passing I guess. Yet there is expectation, anticipation, that some small unique shell is waiting to be washed up just for us. A memento or a memory, either one will do. We watch the wash and swash as it ebbs and flows - small creatures tumble and turn - then sea stops, turns, it goes back, the creatures burrow, what has been is left for us :-)
End of the beach, a cliff face, stretching into the water. A small arch, leading to another beach, beyond, a vast stretch of sand, unknown, I've not been there before. Looks inviting, the promise of a big, unexplored beach, or there's the sea cave to my right.
The arch is small, there is water - maybe !!! I hesitate, the water is deep. I take one step forward. A boulder thuds into my footprint.
People are running toward me and shouting, but I have gone into my own little world. Another boulder lands. The water swells in the arch and it is blocked.
I have a feeling I have a way of encouraging rocks to fall on me, and for some strange reason I am un-phased, like I expect that sort of thing to happen. And to prove the point, another hits the ground.
I hurry into the cave. It's raining rocks. The cave is safe, the cliff climbers move away, and I am in the cave. Without light, it just seems empty, cold and it smells, no one likes it when you smell.
I am not claustrophobic, so I can be comfortable in splendid solitude without realizing it, but like a flower waiting to bloom in the dark, life only begins, when go back into light.
PS - Not totally sure bout image or words - but I had a dream that suggested i get on with it and put stuff out there - so here it goes, I blame this one on my pushy subconscious
