Lazy Sunday Portraits
I decided to take some time on this Rainy / Nasty Sunday to work on some Casual Portraiture with my kids. Not my forte by any means but the biggest thing is I was looking for shots that show their expressiveness. I think I found a few and any time spent with the camera, learning and tweaking is a good thing..
This shot was made in my living room. On my right was a window with a good bit of light coming through, despite the gloomy day. I set up a single Alien Bees B400 shooting into a reflector umbrella that was partially closed. I had them sit on an ottoman right at the base of the stand. Some of the shots had a good, natural black fall-off before the light hit the wall about 4 foot behind her. In some cases I had the help the blackening along in Lightroom.
I was impressed with the clarity of some of the shots of Miles, in his eyes. Enough that I'll probably rub my quarters together to come up with a soft box sooner rather than later.
Still really don't know what the heck I'm doing with off camera light but like anything else, try-try-try-again and eventually something passable will happen. :)
