On Holiday
After the rigors of moving over the last few weeks and some remodelling associated with that move, I scheduled a trip to Walt Disney World. A little mouse therapy to reward my kids and the wife for their patience during the move.
Some highlights thus far.
Rain.
Well, hey -- at least it isn't super hot :) I'm not real keen on drenching my Nikon, however. On the third day, I think I've only taken about 200 shots.
Service.
Had some uncharacteristically poor table service at the Garden Grill. Had some uncharacteristically annoying interactions with the normally pleasant photopass peeps. Had some characteristically awesome service at Tony's in Magic Kingdom. Even ran into a comedian/verbal entertainer bus driver this evening. A rare peek into the way things once were at Disney, who now employs pre-recorded messages for everything.
Food.
Landry's Restaurants. Why do I keep going back? For robotic Dinos. Robotic Dinos are awesome. The $32 T-bone, however, was akin to canned dog food meat. The $10 Mango Mojito sitting next to the crappy steak, was pretty fantastic.
$7.75 for two Red stripes. They wouldn't sell me more than that :)
Tony's Lasagna. Heavy on meat, but still very good.
Garden Grill's flank steak and mashed potatoes. Awesome.
Crowds.
1 hour and 45 minutes for Splash Mountain.
I like persons. I hate people.
:)
Also.. I make unfair judgements about people based on their nationality.
When the fully garbed middle-eastern men in heavy clothes for summer-time temps, strategically placed themselves in equal spacing along the bleachers to watch Dancers @ Downtown Disney - it occurred to me that Downtown Disney has no sercurity screening and I considered making my family go elsewhere. In fact, I spent more time watching these guys for suspicious activity than watching the dance number. Turns out, they weren't terrorists -- just dudes that liked dance numbers. And me? Just a xenophobic asshole who listens to too much
conservative AM Radio. :)
Who knows, one day on my next trip to Saudi Arabia, someone can acuse me of being a power-hungry christian activist cowbow capitalist whose thirst for oil outweighs all moral concerns. A in-turn stereotypage is in order here:)
Balance, and all.
Still, despite the lack of photographic opportunity this trip, the kids are smiling -- that's what really matters. Having fun playing with them!
