Disappointing your namesake

A friend of mine sent me this site this week, www.imagineeringdisney.com/. As a photography freak and fan of Walt Disney, it's definitely a nice time waster.

One of the things that struck me was the detailed models of the now, "Downtown Disney" retail market. It was supposed to be a small, futuristic community. It reminds me of EPCOT's original design (experimental prototype community of tomorrow). Walt had a very un-capitalist tendency when aiming to solve social problems.

A self-sustaining community with people movers and monorails divided in cultural pavilion more in the style of Chinatown rather than changing sections of an outdoor department store and entertainment venue that millions visit a month, today.

Cancer keeps taking the visionaries and parental figures in my life but I really ponder on what Walt would think of his empire in its current state.

Perhaps he would occupy Main Street, USA in protest.
