Contrast
I've studied cognition for quite awhile.. Why? So many algorithms can be gleaned from nature that are potentially applicable to creating software. A year or so ago, I had the idea that if I better understood how the senses worked, I could build a better algorithm for retrieval of bits of information from massive amounts of data. It is fascinating to me how sensory data is interpreted in the brain, then applied to object recognition and memory recollection.
Seems like a potential alternative to index-based data retrieval or mob-rule rankings like Google PageRank.
At any rate, it's another subject that's way over my uneducated head and I didn't get far in my discovery before something shiny distracted me to other endeavors.
What I did, take away though is the similarity in how we (often) perceive things in contrast and how that maps nicely to the binary model.
We perceive hot as the opposite of cold, right as the opposite of wrong, beauty as the opposite of ugliness.
What better example than the image of a Rose as compared to my last submission, the Fly?
