Life in a Farm Town
Somedays, I'm reminded of how out of place I am, geographically. I'm not really a country person. I like paved roads, trains, city lights, green tea, wine and electronic music. I don't chew or smoke tobacco, care at all about reality TV or like to hunt (though I do like to shoot.) I think John Deere is a junky brand prone to failure and high levels of maintenance which, like Harley Davidson, is all about marketing and brand management versus engineering quality and parts resiliency. O' yeah and I'm pretty opinionated.. :)
But still, driving down the road in my yuppy foreign car, listening to podcasts on that futuristic, new-fangled satan-box iPhone I couldn't help but appreciate this scene enough to stop, turn around, take some shots and talk to the farmer for 30 minutes about the weather and a sundry of other small-talk ranging from cameras to politics.
My father in law taught me to respect and like farmers. It may sound like a country-song cliche but they know things.. Survey techniques, weather, chemistry, a hyper-evolved common sense most people lack - not to mention the value of hard work.
All that said, I'm not changing my mind on John Deere, having owned one. ;/
