Teaching materials

"One thing we really need is a cabinet in which to store our teaching and learning materials," says Principal Norkeo Keovisith. But with just 34 students in the school, the school block grants [which provide 100,000 Kip (US $12) per head (70,000 from the Government and 30,000 from GPE)] don't provide enough money to buy cabinets after other priorities are taken care of. "I wish we had a proper place to store our textbooks," says Principal Norkeo Keovisith. "We have to leave them on the table because we don't have a cabinet. And the wind and rain and dust blow in. And sometimes naughty kids come in to the classrooms and take the textbooks, so they get damaged quickly." Khokkham Primary School, Khokkham Village, Pak Ou District, Lao PDR.
