282: Say Goodbye

Ah, the wonderful world of deer hunting is upon us again here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. The whole family gathers at a cabin we have here for a few glorious days of food, fires, and nature (though not normally all at the same time). This is the rifle I've had since I started hunting at 12 years old. For those who actually follow these things, it's a .243 caliber with a break installed at the end of the muzzle to lessen the kickback upon firing. The break makes it loud as hell when it actually fires. That said, I have sorely lacked in opportunities to fire it. Two deer in ten years of hunting is a rather depressing pace. Part of it is due to being unable to go up opening weekend before the deer get the hint and go nocturnal, part of it is overhunting, and part of it is the reintroduction of wolves into the area. But regardless, its a good time to sit in the woods and simply be in nature. No foreign sounds or manmade structures, just you in the trees with the wind blowing.
