263: Mission Accomplished

After months of trial and tribulation, I have been vindicated for all of my work. Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States, and I know that I did my part to help. I personally raised over $10,000 for the Democratic National Committee, ran offices that registered over 5,000 voters and helped manage a large-scale Get Out the Vote campaign in Colorado that helped tip the state blue for only the second time in forty years. There has been a price to success for sure. I'm physically exhausted, my relationships with friends have been strained, and I've had some crises of conscience due to problems with my organization. But when I was at the bar last night alongside my peers who worked their heart out just like me and watching Obama give his acceptance speech, it all proved to be worth it. After celebrating in the bar, we went out in the streets of Boulder to find people dancing, singing, and celebrating. We joined in. It was like being in a movie scene after a country gets liberated. There were flags waving, drum circles, car horns honking. Absolutely incredible. Days, months, and years from now, I'll be able to say I was part of history in 2008. What a ride.
