111: Gopher Toper goes to Rochester

Today I hitched a ride down to Rochester, Minnesota for the 2008 DFL Party State Convention. I was elected to be a delegate to the event at a local convention earlier in the year. The most important thing about the convention this year is that delegates will be choosing which candidate the party should endorse in the US Senate race against Norm Coleman. The choices are Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, a professor from the University of St. Thomas, or Al Franken, the well known comedian/satirist/radio personality. It is certainly an unconventional field of candidates, but they've started to get used to that here in Minnesota. I am attending the convention as an uncommitted delegate. I've been receiving mailings and direct phone calls from both candidates for the last two months, but I suspect my decision will come right down to the last minute. Should be exciting. Too bad they couldn't spell my name correctly on the credentials badge...
