LZ127 Graf Zeppelin

It was here, just south of Frankfurt, that Deutsche Luftschifffahrt AG established its main airport in 1934, having moved there from Lake Constance. The altitude at Zeppelinheim is 300 metres lower than at Manzell, and for an airship, increased air density means more payload.

This fine little museum commemorates the bygone era of the Zeppelin airships. On display are models, artefacts and information material from the times when the Zeppelins majestically plied the skies.

LZ-127 "Graf Zeppelin", launched in 1928, was far and away the sleekest, most elegant and most successful airship ever. It covered a distance of 1.7 million km in 590 flights, carrying a total of 34,000 passengers, without an accident.
