A bonus shot of the steamer
One afternoon in the Shasta Valley, we were chasing a train on Central Oregon & Pacific that stopped at Montague, California to make a pickup. As we were waiting, we heard a steam whistle off to the west. After a short drive, we caught Yreka Western's "Blue Goose" excursion train climbing Butcher Hill on the return trip to Yreka, and then returned to the CORP job.
As it turned out, this was the last time I saw the steam locomotive operating on YW. After some well documented woe, the YW 19 was sold by the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office to satisfy a creditor's lien. Today, the Baldwin Mikado resides at the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Ohio.
