Greater Manchester Transport bus picks up passengers in Oldham town centre

Greater Manchester Transport bus number 5154 looks busy as it picks up passengers in Oldham. Judging by the passengers who seem to be mainly shoppers, it's probably the middle of the day.

Metro-Cammell of Birmingham was a respected bus coachwork manufacturer, but the company branched out into making complete buses after Leyland snapped up most of its competition and became almost a monopoly supplier in bus chassis manufacture. Its products became quite a popular alternative to Leyland's buses and Greater Manchester Transport bought over 200 of the 'Metrobus' model at the end of the 1970s and up to 1986.

There are two Metrobuses at the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester - number 5083 of 1981 is in storage awaiting restoration, and 5208 of 1986 (with a coach body built by Northern Counties) is, at the time of writing, under restoration.
