Bolton Corporation Transport 300, 1969

When you read about Greater Manchester's transport history of the 1960s, you read about the Manchester City Transport 'Mancunian' design that revolutionised bus design. But the General Manager of Manchester behind the Mancunian, Ralph Bennett, had come from Bolton Transport where he had started a movement towards more attractive styles of bus design.

Number 300 was made as the culmination of that movement in Bolton, as one of a number that was delivered around the time that SELNEC took over from Bolton in November 1969. It has a separate entrance and exit for faster stops when used with a combined driver/conductor; modern, sloping windows; and an attractive cream and crimson paint scheme. 300 would still look modern today, but in 1969 it was no doubt the pride of Bolton.

It is pleasing to say that 300 stills exists in private preservation.
