Operation Alloy

Chief Superintendent Neil Wain opens the briefing.

Greater Manchester Police supported by British Transport Police and engineers from telecoms, electricity, water, rail and tram companies have served warrants on more than 18 scrap yards and stop searched 120 vehicles this morning (23/9/11) as part of Operation Alloy a force-wide clampdown on metal thieves.

The hard-hitting operation, involving more than 200 officers and two dozen partner agency representatives, has already resulted in finds of cable from BT, the National Grid, Electricity North West and the new Metro system that is under construction.

The operation also included vehicle checks and a range of other measure designed to disrupt people involved in this type of criminality.

The Force has stated that this is just one in a series of similar operations to be run over the coming weeks and moths and that those involved in metal theft should beware.
