Operation Sarnia
Police in North Manchester have arrested five people following drugs warrants this morning.
Shortly after 6.30am on Tuesday 8 October 2013, police raided seven homes in Cheetham Hill, Oldham, and south Manchester.
The five men remain in custody on suspicion of possession of class B drugs with intent to supply, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
It follows on from Operation Cairo which resulted in 52 people being sentenced to a total of 147 years of prison time for drug dealing on the streets of Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall over the last 18 months.
Superintendent Vanessa Jardine said: "Today's arrests follow on from a warrant we executed in June where cannabis, with the estimated street value of £250,000, was seized alongside firearms, ammunition, heroin and cocaine.
"We said we would never become complacent and would continue to clampdown on drug dealing in North Manchester and I hope these arrests show the community that we have not stopped and we will not stop.
"We have cleaned up the streets of Cheetham Hill by removing dealers who had the audacity to sell drugs in broad daylight and today's action is taking the next step."
Anyone with information about those involved in drug-related activity in their area should call police at North Manchester on 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
