DR0756

Bateyes/Ghettos/barrios bajos/Slums

usually wooden shacks and

shanti towns filled with Haitian refugees.

I have known the DR probably better than most Dominicans for 43 years.

I lived there 4 years while in Medical School and have travelled through almost every corner and know it very very well.

I did help build a hospital with the ex GOV of NJ

many years back

in a town called PARAISO ( paradise )

where there are no doctors

nurses or anyone medically trained.

Corruption and indifference closed it a few years after it was built.

I have not been back so i do not know what transpired.
