INDIA6329/ Feeding the poor
A man with an obvious amputation probably a case of self mutilation
joins the daily group of beggars awaiting some Dhal and Chapati given to them
from the few Muslim shops on this street leading to the second largest Mosque in INDIA.
this is Old Delhi
this is charity
this is part of Islam few know about
this is the destitution of mankind
Few in the West or even rich INDIANS care that millions starve each day.
Many people I'm positive on FLICKR and other sites find images of this distasteful and would rather not look at them.
Its called blaming the victim,
its called deep denial
its called indifference
its called the deep profound and indisputable chasm between the rich and poor!
Worldwide, the number of hungry people has dropped significantly over the past two decades, but 842 million people continue to struggle with hunger every day.
1.2 billion people still live in extreme poverty — on less than $1.25 per day.
Each year, 2.6 million children die as a result of hunger-related causes.
But progress has been made. There has been a reduction of more than 34 percent in global hunger since 1990.
The target of halving the percentage of people suffering from hunger by 2015 is possible.
However, there are still an estimated 868 million people who are undernourished and more than 100 million children under age five who are undernourished and underweight.
