One of the things that clinical hypnotists are frequently asked a t parties is "Hypnotize me." Hypnotherapists are reluctant to try this because 1) they're afraid they'll fail in front of all those people, and 2) they feel it trivializes their work.
I'm going to be doing a presentation to the Oregon Hypnotherapy Association sometime this year on what to do if you (a hypnotherapist) are asked to hypnotize someone at an informal situation. I draw from my experience not only as a consulting hypnotist, but also as a magician. Those two arts have a lot in common, yet they hold each other at arm's length.
