Double rainbow in the Valley of Fire

It had been sunny and hot every day, but this day the clouds blew in and the rain began to fall. Dusty and dry red rock suddenly became wet and shiny, and there was that special smell in the air of fresh rain. I used that time to scout out the location of an arch that I had been looking for, and I became distracted by my searching efforts so I wasn't looking up at the sky. When I finally did, I saw that the sun had come out and this double rainbow was staring right at me. It was like a gift. I ran for the RV to grab my camera and fired off a series of photos that included this one. Within just a few minutes, the rainbow was gone forever. It was here for a brief moment in time. So beautiful, and so fleeting. Like our lives.

Shot handheld with a 14 - 24 mm wide angle lens.
