Foraging

Returning from the picket line, we found a huge supply of blackberries along the roadside. Bomb, being by now the official group fence-jumper, filled my scarf with dozens of lovely juicy berries, until i became worried about havign a purple scarf and we transfered them to Flik's hat.

We then stopped at a pub on the way back to the camp, where I discovered that if you drop a blackberry in a glass of lemonade it'll sink - but then as the CO2 effervesses out of the liquid, the bubbles attach themselves to the berry instead of floating straight to the surface. Eventually, the bubbles clustered around the berry reach a critical mass where the whole structure becomes bouyant, and the berry floats gently to the surface! And you get really nice-tasting lemondade!

I found this fascinating, but nobody else was majorly impressed. And then a passing policeman implied that I was square.

In august 2007, people from all over the UK gathered to protest plans to add a third runway to heathrow airport. Heathrow already produces more CO2 than most countries, and adding more flights at a time when climate change threatens the entire planet is nothing short of madness.

We were joined by locals from the village of Sipson, which is due to disapear under the new runway, with little compensation or consideration for the displaced residents.
