Charaxes jasius - La (rara) farfalla viziosa
La Charaxes jasius è l'unico esemplare europeo del genere Charaxes ed è rinvenibile in Toscana e nelle Marche. Rappresenta una rarità alata e viene denominata “farfalla viziosa di Capalbio” o romanticamente "Ninfa del corbezzolo" ma è meglio conosciuta come "la sbronzona", visto che si nutre di zuccheri fermentati; in altre parole beve alcolici con grande piacere.
La Charaxes jasius è una delle farfalle più belle e più grandi esistenti in Italia con un’apertura alare che arriva a otto centimetri. La livrea è di un delicato velluto bruno, orlato di arancione e traversato da una fascia d’argento con riflessi verdi, lunule azzurre e decorazioni rosse e bianche. Le ali hanno due code.
E’una farfalla di origine tropicale che vive alle nostre latitudini nella macchia mediterranea lungo la fascia costiera caratterizzata dalla presenza della pianta del corbezzolo.
Presenta due generazioni all’anno. La prima a maggio/giugno e la seconda ad agosto/settembre, così che alcuni esemplari possono essere visti svolazzare sino a novembre.

The Charaxes jasius is the only European specimen of Charaxes genus and it is to be found in Tuscany and Marche. It represents a rare butterfly and it is called "butterfly Capalbio vicious" or romantically "Nymph of the strawberry tree" but it is best known as the "drunk", since it feeds on fermented sugars, in other words it drinks alcohol with great pleasure.
The Charaxes jasius is one of the largest and most beautiful butterflies existing in Italy with a wingspan that reaches eight cm. It has a delicate brown velvet livery, trimmed with orange and crossed by asilver with green band, blue moons form and red and white decorations. The wings have two tails.
It is a butterfly that lives in the tropical latitudes in the Mediterranean along the coast characterized by the presence of the strawberry plant.
It has two generations per year. The first in May / June and the second in August / September so that some specimens may be seen flitting up in November.
